A team from WHIZDOM 101 has hauled bags and branches from a local canal as the project works with the community in Prakanong on neighborhood initiatives.
WHIZDOM 101 members joined officials from Bangkok’s drainage department in cutting back undergrowth and fishing out junk from Bang Aor Yai canal on 7 September.
“The condition of the banks was very bad, so we helped clear them to encourage people not to throw trash,” said Thanit Kongkaew, a VP of commerce and retail at WHIZDOM 101.
“Because this canal is part of a drainage system, improving the water quality is actually very challenging. But we want to start by cleaning first and then co-operating with the community, reaching out to the people who are living along the waterway.”
WHIZDOM 101 may also help locals install wastewater filters, he added.
“We want to show people that we’re their neighbors,” Kongkaew said.
WHIZDOM 101 President Suttha Ruengchaipaiboon said the cleanup chimes with the ‘sustainnovation’ approach of MQDC, the developer behind the mixed-use project.
“WHIZDOM 101 takes the concept of ‘For all well-being’ into account on developing our project,” he said.
“Our goal is creating sustainnovation, so the surrounding community is one of a vital elements that we are going to create a long-term sustainable development plan.”
WHIZDOM 101 is designed as a ‘third place’, beyond home and work. Set to open at the end of 2018, the project will be a ‘one-stop shop’ combining residential towers with shopping, dining, offices, shops, sports facilities, and green spaces.
The project is on the shortlist for a Ministry of Energy ‘Smart Cities-Clean Energy’ award for its high-tech energy-saving features. Each footstep on the skybridge to the BTS skywalk, for example, generates 5W of electricity
